Reed depends on water. It will not survive long dry, and it likes light..

blossoming

Blossoming time is through July and through to mid September. Male and female flowers are on each reed and are self pollinating in the breeze and wind. Insects tend to only visit the male flowers so they do not help the pollinating very well.

fruit and seeds

Seeds drop into the water from late August until mid November and eventually embed themselves into mud at a still part of the waterway.
